Definition

At Smile and Care, we offer various solutions to improve your smile and the aesthetics of your teeth: orthodontics (modification of the position of the teeth), composite or ceramic veneers (modification of the colour and shape of the teeth) or teeth whitening (modification of the colour of the teeth).

Teeth whitening aims to lighten the colour of the enamel and dentine using a whitening product in the form of hydrogen peroxide gel. Hydrogen peroxide is a highly reactive product containing hydrogen and oxygen. It whitens teeth very effectively. Nevertheless, its use is highly regulated because if it is used incorrectly, it can damage your teeth.

At Smile and Care, beauty treatments are always carried out with caution.

All our patients who wish to have their teeth whitened must undergo a dental check-up to ensure that there are no contraindications: tooth decay, periodontal disease, pregnancy, root canal treatment or gum irritation. We would also like to remind you that teeth whitening should not be performed on children or teenagers. The results of teeth whitening are visible in the days following the treatment, and last on average 4 years, depending on the patient’s lifestyle. In fact, a high consumption of coffee, tea or tobacco clearly reduces the long-term effects of whitening.

Teeth whitening at home

This teeth whitening treatment is included in a package of three appointments. The treatment consists of taking impressions in order to make custom-made aligners. A professional whitening product is provided to the patient, which will be inserted into the aligners. Thanks to this product, teeth regain their whiteness and shine in a few days. A post-whitening consultation is included in this package to ensure the result and patient satisfaction.

Theeth whitening in the clinic

This treatment is carried out in full in our centres in Grand-Saconnex and Eaux-Vives, and takes place over two sessions. During the first consultation, impressions are taken in order to make a custom-made tray in flexible plastic, which will then hold the highly concentrated whitening gel. Then, the whitening is carried out during the second appointment, by our dental hygienists. This appointment, lasting 2 hours, allows for 3 to 4 applications of the product. This treatment is preferably for light tooth shades.

But also… Whitening of devitalised teeth

Devitalised teeth, which have undergone root treatment, tend to turn grey or yellow over time. If the devitalised tooth in question is visible (canine or incisor), the colour contrast can bother the patient. Our specialists have a very effective technique: a whitening product is placed directly inside the tooth and restores it to the same shade as the other teeth.
